Community Job Survey
Starting pay $16-20 per hour. Because of the increased pharmaceutical needs of a larger, older population, growth in this occupation will be almost as fast as the average for all others in the state. According to the US Department of Labor, the need for Pharmacy Technicians is expected to grow 25% through 2018.

Externships
“Eligible” students will be placed in externships. An eligible student is one who has all prerequisites on file with The Learning Oasis and has successfully completed the classroom portion of the course. Full details will be given during the first class session.

Prerequisites
There are no minimum state requirements for enrollment. Students need to be 18 years of age (will need birthdate at time of registration) by the time they do their externship and have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent. Prior to placement in an externship, each participant will be required to show proof of completion CPR for the healthcare (completed in class) and submit a resume.

Recognition
Upon completion, graduates will receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to apply for registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of California.

Note
The title of Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) is given to a student when he or she has successfully passed the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. A voucher to take the exam is included in the course fee and students will be given a prep guide. (The state of California does not require the PTCB test - but we encourage students to take it to improve their employment eligibility.)
